Daphne Willis is known for her trademark goggles, a fitting accessory for such an insightful songwriter. We spoke with the upbeat Texas transplant as she gears up for her debut appearance at Musicians Corner, which happens to fall on our 100th Event Celebration. Thankfully, she knows how to throw a party.
What can we expect from your set at Musicians Corner?
High energy, up tempo happy songs! I have a ridiculously talented band and if I didn't just have to be on stage with them I'd be in the audience dancing.
What’s been one of your career highlights this year?
I recently signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV- NYC! It's very exciting as they have actual moved A&R badass Mark Abramowitz to Nashville to start hitting the pop scene hard. So we are doing just that, and I'm so excited to be part of the team! BAM!
What’s your favorite festival experience?
None has been better than another that I can really mention. They are all pretty much kick ass.
Where are some of the places you like to go to when in Nashville?
Honestly most of time I'm in Nashville I am in studios or writing roomsl. I do love the East for late night fun, though. Day time fun includes Percy Warner Park for trail running, and the West End dog park with my Lil' Boo (that's her name).
Have you been to Musicians Corner yet? Any thoughts on it?
Yep! I love it! I think it's such a great way for newer artists to be heard in a festival -style setting. Not usually the trend in Nash, so it's really cool to be a part of something unique like that.
What's the last great concert you went to?
I just recently saw Sharon Jones with the Dap Kings at the Iron n' Ink Festival. That woman was on fire the entire set. I couldn't keep up. And the band.... well... daaaaaamn.
