Matthew Perryman Jones

Matthew Perryman Jones, one of our all-time favorite singer-songwriters, will help kick off our Fall Season this Saturday, along with Marc Broussard, McCrary Sisters and Castro The Band. We talked to handsome irishman about his love of the Pixies, his favorite local eateries and more. Watch the video for "Long Way Home From Here," shot in a sweltering abandoned train car in Nashville, below.

What can we expect from your set at Musicians Corner?

Well, being that it's an outdoor daytime show, I'll be playing my more upbeat songs with a band. No shoe-gazers at this one.

You sang "You Wreck Me" at our Tom Petty tribute show last night. Why'd you pick that song? Are you a big fan?

I wanted to sing that one because it's fun. Yes, I love Petty.

Where are some of the places to hang out at, drink or eat when in Nashville?

I love the Treehouse in East Nashville for food and drink. Charlie Bob's on Dickerson for breakfast. Mafiozza's on 12th ave for my chicken wing fix ... best wings in town, FYI.

You're a regular at Musicians Corner. What do you like about it?

I have been to many Musicians Corner events both on the stage and on a blanket with my kids. I love it because it feels like a big casual Nashville family hang.

What's the last great concert you went to?

The one that immediately comes to mind is the Pixies show at the Ryman a couple years back. They're one of my all time favorite bands since 1989 and I had never seen them live. I laughed out loud for the first 20 minutes out of sheer delight. They sounded incredible. The show was amazing. Then, at the end of show, when Frank Black didn't once acknowledge the band but walked the front of the stage alone waving like it was the Frank Black show, I lost my enthusiasm to cheer for more. Then the over-amped, obnoxious sporty guy in front of me with his hat on backwards yelled at me to bang on the pew for encore, at which point he got a swift taste of the Irish in me and quit. I was in high school all over again (which was great). The band was fantastic and Mr. Black should have acknowledged them like a pro. I still love the Pixies though and would see them again and again.
